August 6, Medina to Albion
Breakfast at the Orchard View is better than anything I have had at the fanciest hotels I have stayed at. Ingrid had fresh cut fruit (home grown, of course), baked peach French toast and homemade blueberry muffins. I left the table stuffed and ready to row it off!
I joked as I left the table that Ingrid would probably give us plattar with lingon the following morning.
It was a late start and we were aware that we had few places to take out if we went beyond the ramp in Albion. So it was a choice between committing to a 20 mile day and an 8 mile day. We chose the shorter distance. I had a conference call to get on at 3:00 and was not sure I could focus on the discussion and steering at the same time!
David Miller was again willing to come and pick one of us up to go and fetch the car. What a wonderful group we had met at the Medina Habitat. We cannot say enough to thank them and especially David for his taxi service! Heather went with him and got a tour of the Culvert road underpass under the canal. When we had put the boat back on the car she took me to see it. This was one of the finest arched tunnels I have seen. Water was seeping through the cracks and dripping but there was no worry about this 180 year old structure from failing.
We went back to Medina to eat at Rudy’s across the street from Newell’s Shirt Factory.
As we entered, Kelly, the proprietor approached us and said “I know you! You were on the front page of today’s paper. You order whatever you want and I am paying for it.” So we read the article that included a picture taken at the Medina town dock yesterday.
We then returned to the Orchard View and the good company of Ingrid and Roger who volunteered to help chauffeur us the next day.
