August 11, Fairport to Newark, This was the longest row of the trip so far. 19.2 miles
We left our room at the Quality Inn in Newark to drive back to where we had taken out where Ayrault road crossed the canal just south of Fairport.

As we prepared the boat we erected the canopy we had put on the finishing touches on Sunday afternoon.
It seemed to stay in place well and certainly did a great job of protecting us from the sun. We wished we had had it for the downpour we suffered on Saturday! I supposed that that downpour and the drenching we experienced had motivated us to finally get it finished.
A very nice couple, Dave and Patty Geier were launching their kayaks as we were preparing.
They were heading the same direction and we said we would be seeing them soon. As expected we came up on them in Fairport where they intended to stop and eat lunch. Dave paid us the best compliment we have had as we rowed by in our Adirondack Conestoga Boat ( the canopy makes it look like a Conestoga wagon!) when he said something to the effect that we seemed to be "a well oiled machine". I do like to think that our rowing has improved over the years and our efficiency has been honed. Heather's rowing has been outstanding and I rarely feel a need to be a coach. She follows my pace even with a much shorter reach which I think must be quite difficult.
