January 12 The wind had come up from the North overnight so a strong breeze entered the tent as I awoke. I had gotten up once in the night to check the boat fearing that it might have been picked up by a rising tide and floated to Cuba. It was just fine where I had pulled it up and the tide was way out. I tied the stern line to the bow line so to be able to reach the nearest tree where I tied it well so that I could return to my sleep. The new day looked like it was going to be too windy to row past the seven mile bridge which would expose us to more open water than anywhere we had been. This was a good enough excuse to take a second blister healing day. So we took a walk along the shore under the bridge we were camped beside and saw the rest of the small island that was not occupied by the campground. We were on the better side. We returned to camp and took out the laptop to catch up on the log and Heather figured out how to send the pictures she was taking with the digital camera built into her cell phone. She finally got some success and we heard from Sarah that they had been received. Now all we needed to do was figure out how to send this log through her cell phone. The day was spent writing and resting and healing. The wind died somewhat but we have heard a forecast that we will see some rain and wind in the next few days. We remind ourselves that such things were to be anticipated and that we have been very fortunate so far to have had perfect weather. If we don’t make it as far as Ft. Lauderdale we will still have rowed far and had a wonderful time and raised some money for our cause. The taxi fare may be a little more from where we store the boat to the airport! No stress. No disappointments. That is the meaning of vacation.
